Repair terms

The terms a Voltage Vet repair runs on — quotes and approval, parts, payment, turnaround, warranty on labor, liability, and uncollected devices.

Last reviewed

These are the terms every repair here runs on. They are written the way I would explain them at the door, and they apply from the moment you drop a machine off.

Quotes and approval

Prices on this site are estimates for labor, published so you know roughly where you stand before you contact me. The number that counts is the written quote you get after I have seen the machine.

Nothing is opened, replaced or ordered before you accept that quote. If the work turns up something the quote didn't cover, it stops and you get a revised quote — I will not run up a bill and present it at pickup.

Diagnostics

The diagnostic fee is charged when I diagnose a machine and you decide not to have the work done. If you go ahead with the repair, the diagnostic is rolled into it and you are not charged twice.

Parts

Parts are billed separately from labor, at cost plus a handling fee, and are itemized in the quote. Lead times on parts from overseas are outside my control; where a part is likely to be slow, I say so in the quote rather than after.

If you supply your own part, I will fit it, but I cannot warrant a part I did not source and I will not refund labor if that part turns out to be faulty.

Payment and pickup

Payment is due when you collect the machine. Larger parts orders may require a deposit up front, which will always be flagged in the quote.

Turnaround

Turnaround estimates are honest estimates, not guarantees. Most jobs take two to five days; anything waiting on a part can take longer, and I would rather tell you that than promise a date I cannot hold.

Warranty on my labor

I warrant my own workmanship for thirty days from pickup. If something I worked on comes loose or fails in the way it was repaired, bring it back and I will make it right at no charge.

That warranty does not cover new faults elsewhere on the machine, wear items such as tires, brake pads and cables, damage from a crash or from water, or parts you supplied yourself. Manufacturer parts I fit carry whatever warranty the manufacturer offers, and I will help you claim it.

Condition, risk and liability

Electric vehicles arrive in the condition they arrive in. Older machines have brittle plastics, seized fasteners and corroded connectors, and disassembly occasionally breaks something that was already at the end of its life. Where I think that is a real risk, I will tell you before I start.

I am not liable for pre-existing faults, for damage caused by prior repairs, for water damage that had already occurred, or for consequential losses — missed journeys, lost earnings, a ruined weekend. My liability for any job is limited to the amount you paid me for that job.

Batteries are the exception I take seriously: I do not carry out cell-level pack rebuilds, and I will decline any machine with a swollen, punctured or previously burned pack. That is a fire risk, not a repair.

Machines I decline

I may decline work — most often when a repair would cost more than the machine is worth, when a machine is unsafe to return to the road, or when the parts genuinely do not exist. You will hear that within a day, with a reason, and you pay the diagnostic only.

Uncollected machines

Please collect your machine within thirty days of me telling you it is ready. After thirty days I may charge reasonable storage.

If a machine has not been collected ninety days after the ready notice, and I have made at least two documented attempts to reach you on the contact details you gave me, I will treat it as abandoned and dispose of it to recover the unpaid bill and storage. Nobody wants this outcome. If something has gone wrong on your end, tell me and we will work it out.

Photographs

I photograph machines during repair as a record of the work. I may use those photographs to illustrate a repair publicly, with nothing in the frame that identifies you. Tell me if you would rather I didn't and that is the end of it.

Changes

These terms may change; the version that applies to your repair is the one published when you accepted your quote.
